Aug 44 Project Nike initiated by the Army to develop a guided missile for air defense, 17 Aug 44. The month before the Germans fired the first missile used in modern warfare, the V-1, at London.

22 Dec 58- 243d AAA Msl BN (Nike) RI ARNG reorganized from gun Bn; 1957-58 marks high water mark of ARNG ADA program with 12 AAA BDE HHBs, 43 AA GP HHBs, 63 AAA detachments, 27 divisional AAA BNs and 119 AAA BNs, including 58 90mm Gun BNs, 14 175mm Gun BNs, 1 120mm Gun Bn, 11 AW (Mobile) Bns and 28 NIKE MISSILE BNs in 11 states; 298th AAA GP in Hawaii becomes first NIKE-HERCULES equipped ARNG unit with 6 batteries.

DOD announces the reduction of Continental US NIKE HERCULES batteries from 21 RA and 27 ARNG batteries to 4 RA (all in FL) starting Apr 74 and completed by Jun 75.
1989 Former Nike Housing Areas, still operational, are slated for closure by the first BRAC Report. Most are closed between 1990 and 1992.
