Missile going up

Success! After 23 years, missiles can be erected and lowered at SF-88. This will be the only U.S. site, due to treaty limitations, that will be allowed to erect Nike missiles on a launcher.

This missile is going from a horizontal position (similar to the missile on the left) to an angle of 87 degrees from the horizontal. This angle will help assure that the booster (the black tubes with the white fins) will land in the pre-assigned booster landing area, and not this launching area.
