The December 23, 1959 NEW YORK TIMES (page 50) quoted Reuters dispatch from ESPENBORN, BELGIUM as saying that Belgium's first missile base with both NIKE Ajax and NIKE Hercules was declared operational, and that it will be operated by Belgian crews trained {at Ft. Bliss}.

Originally the units were deployed in Belgium in the ELSENBORN area. Later the units were moved to Germany and thus participated in the Air defence belt.

Rolf D. Görigk's Web Page says that in September 1974, there were 8 Nike batteries (squadrons) in Belgium .
